Robes

Hint 1

Hmmm... A Jack tends to need assistance and seldom works alone.

Hint 2

Your Queen has a clue to offer you.

Hint 3

A message intertwined, similar, yet different.

Hint 4

Two knaves spoke in secret.

Hint 5

Spade and Heart and Spade and Heart and Spade and Heart...

Solution

From the Jack of Spades to the Jack of Hearts, it spills its secret:
"You will be our pawn, until your final hour."

Border

Hint 1

Nothing worse than a disordered border.

Hint 2

A fine pair of robes, I see.

Hint 3

Red and black and red and black and red and black...

Hint 4

If it's all mixed up, you're making tremendous progress.

Solution

The robes contain a red-black striped pattern, alternating between the two colors. Reading the border in this order, it says: "Your nation is in turmoil, there is a rebellion you must foil."

Border

Hint 1

My own robes hold no secrets to assist you with my message, but my husband's may.

Hint 2

A symbolic alphabet, unique to this suit.

Hint 3

Morganwg's Alphabet... I haven't heard of this. Perhaps some research is necessary.

Hint 4

It has several other names: The Bards' Alphabet or Coelbren

Solution

"Face to face, men of all trades, a shared secret, between heart and spade."
A reference to two of the knaves... best to question them together.

Robes

Hint 1

A fine piece of jewelry she wears around her neck!

Hint 2

Some odd groupings of singular and double strands, but lovely still.

Hint 3

Only nine beads grace each strand.

Hint 4

A symbol of power... or perhaps of numerals.

Hint 5

Count carefully, and perhaps some letters can be exchanged for this piece.

Solution

Each strand of nine beads has one (or none) of a different color, representing numeric value. Some strands are singular (1-9) while others are grouped into pairs (10-26), offering two numerals as a set. Translating these numbers into letters yields: "Madame Deficit", a nickname for a well known woman.

Border

Hint 1

My clothes hold the secret for my border and my wife's.

Hint 2

A strange alphabet, only held by those of my suit.

Hint 3

Morganwg's Alphabet... I haven't heard of this. Perhaps some research is necessary.

Hint 4

It has several other names: The Bards' Alphabet or Coelbren

Solution

The border when translated reads: "Helping you is our pleasure, but you must share your treasure."

Robes

Hint 1

A familiar alphabet though odd in its own ways.

Hint 2

This alphabet is well suited to a deck of cards.

Hint 3

A familiar knave used this alphabet for both of its parts.

Hint 4

Even if you've translated it, you may still need to do some research.

Hint 5

A solution to assist you in finding other solutions? Bordering on insolence, if you ask me.

Solution

Using a variant of the alphabet integrated throughout the deck, these robes yield: "Morganwg Alphabet" and with some light research, you may find other names for this script as well.
